CreVal – a new Swedish private equity firm for small businesses

CreVal Partners Fund I AB (”CreVal”) CreVal is a growth oriented Swedish private equity fund with an industrial focus and a large network of experienced industrialists. CreVal will invest in small and mid-sized high quality companies based in Sweden or the Nordic region with growth and development potential, where the fund can actively contribute to and accelerate the companies’ development. Creval has made a first closing at approximately SEK 700 million from institutional investors (e.g. Sixth Swedish National Pension Fund and Third Swedish National Pension Fund) as well as from CreVal’s founders, board of Directors and some entrepreneurs. The Fund is capped at SEK 1 000 million.

CreVal focuses on well-established and profitable companies primarily in Sweden but selectively also in the rest of the Nordic region, with sales of SEK 100-500 million. The companies CreVal invests in should have strong market positions and significant development potential. CreVal is a majority investor and welcomes partnerships with existing owners, management teams and other employees.

To be able to actively drive and increase growth and industrial development of a company, we have a large network of experienced industrialists with a broad experience from a number of different sectors. These industrialists are actively involved in the evaluation of prospective investments but also in the portfolio phase, with significant experience of industry trends, strategies, business logics and key parameters. CreVal’s Board of Directors consists of Hans Larsson, Chairman (Chairman of Nobia, Deputy Chairman of Handelsbanken, board member of Holmen etc.), Jan Larsson (CEO of Blomsterlandet), Carl-Erik Ridderstråle (former CEO of BT Industries, Chairman of BE Group, board member of Seco Tools, KMT etc.), Lars Spongberg (former CEO of Allgon and Spectra-Physics, board member of Westergyllen, Addtech etc.) and Anders Ullberg (former CEO of SSAB, Chairman of Boliden, Deputy Chairman Tieto Enator, board member of Atlas Copco, Sapa etc.). In addition to our Board of Directors, CreVal has a network of approximately 20 industrialists with significant experience from the engineering, services, consumer goods, med tech and retail sectors. Some examples are Stig-Arne Blom (former CEO of IRO), Bertil Fredriksson (Styrelseresurs AB), Claes Lindqvist (former CEO of Höganäs), and Thommy Nilsson (former CEO of JC).

Nils Forsberg and Per Forsberg, founders of CreVal, comment “We are enthusiastic about the establishment of CreVal with strong support from leading Swedish institutions and industrialists. CreVal has a strong platform to act as a active owner, and together with sellers and the companies’ management teams, further develop small and midsize companies.”

Hans Larsson, Chairman of CreVal, adds “CreVal is acting in a size bracket where a number of ownership changes is expected to occur in the next few years. We see ample opportunities for interesting investments in companies where CreVal, with its clear industrial focus, can actively contribute with capital and industrial experience to ensure that companies can achieve their full potential. Those sellers who wish to remain as owners with CreVal are welcome as partners and will hence share future value creation.”
