Valedo invests in Akademikliniken

Valedo has reached an agreement to invest in Akademikliniken, the leading Swedish aesthetic and reconstructive surgery group. The investment is made in partnership with Akademikliniken’s founders and employees. With Valedo as a new co-owner, Akademikliniken will have additional resources, in the form of competence and capital, to drive growth while remaining committed to offering a broad and high quality service offering based on world leading research and best medical practices.

Akademikliniken operates one of the world’s leading aesthetic surgery clinics, performing more than 25,000 procedures annually. In addition to aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery Akademikliniken offers non surgical injection treatments, medical skin care, aesthetic dental care and develops and sells clinical cosmetic skin care products. Founded in 1991, Akademikliniken generated sales in excess of SEK 200 million and employs approximately 130 people in 2010. Akademikliniken’s primary market is Sweden, with surgical clinics in Stockholm and Malmö, but the Company also operates a walk-in clinic in central Stockholm for non-surgical procedures as well as consultation offices in Copenhagen and London. Akademikliniken also hosts the annual symposium “Beauty Through Science” which is attended by ~500 of the world’s leading plastic surgeons, dermatologists and researchers.

Alongside Valedo and the founding surgeons, key employees and the new Board of Directors will invest in Akademikliniken.

”We are pleased to welcome Valedo as an investor in Akademikliniken and believe the complementary skills and experience of Valedo in combination with a broader ownership among Akademikliniken’s key employees will create a stronger platform going forward. As founders, we look forward to continue to build Akademikliniken together with Valedo and our outstanding team of cosmetic surgeons, dermatologists, nurses and other highly skilled personnel. Together we share a desire to continuously develop our practices through research and development of our services to improve surgical and non-surgical procedures for the benefit of our patients.” says Per Hedén, Jan Jernbeck and Ulf Samuelson, founders and co-owners of Akademikliniken

”Akademikliniken has a strong market position and platform in this growing and developing industry. Improved methods and techniques in the areas of aesthetic surgery and new minimally invasive procedures combined with growing social acceptance, create a strong foundation for the company’s continued solid growth. With the additional support from Valedo, Akademikliniken will be able to lead and drive the development of the industry while maintaining a clear focus on quality and service.” says Alexandra Leiderby, CEO of Akademikliniken
